Kelseys Original Roadhouse

I recently visited Kelseys in Ajax, and unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated. After finally sitting down, it took nearly 15 more minutes just to get our drink order. We started with nachos, which were okay at best. Then we ordered 30 wings: 10 lemon pepper, 10 honey garlic, and 10 apple butter BBQ. The lemon pepper wings were completely drenched in lemon, making them overwhelmingly sour — no one at the table could eat them. My sides were served late, and both were disappointing. The onion rings were burnt to the color of iced tea and rock hard, while the fries were clearly refried and came out lukewarm. After all of this, we weren’t given extra napkins, wipes for our hands (especially after saucy wings), utensils, condiments, or even lemon in our drinks. For $71, the quality of food was terrible — I could’ve made a far better meal at home for half the price. Would I recommend this place? Absolutely not. Will I be coming back? No. To top it off, when we were paying, the waiter made an inappropriate and uncomfortable comment, questioning why our group wasn’t all the same race and why we were together. This kind of behavior is completely unacceptable in any setting.

Our server George was absolutely amazing. He correct issues I had with my meal and made this my first experience one I can over look with my meal not being made the way I wanted just by the way he treated my family and me.

Dessert at the roadhouse felt like touring two very different properties. The Lava Cake was like a solid mid-range home—decent curb appeal but nothing that made me want to put in an offer. Then came the Messy Cookie, which was more like a fixer-upper—cold, uninviting, and the ice cream felt like the outdated wallpaper you can’t wait to strip away. This dessert duo could definitely use a little renovation! Server and staff were amazing!

Service was amazing….and service goes a long way in the restaurant experience. Very attentive, friendly, and efficient. No complaints. However, the food is also important. The food flavour and quality was good, but the portion size was quite disappointing. A small patty (well 2 small patties in the burger) and a very small portion of fries. I even upgraded the fries and paid an extra $1.99 for some loaded fries. The concept and toppings were great, but the portion size did not match up. Sadly I don’t feel like this is the location’s fault, but the head office controlling cost. In summary, the service is great, the food quality is good, but be prepared to pay a little more for your standard pub fare.

We celebrated Valentine's Day at Kelseys. We were gravitated towards the 2 for $55 dinner for 2. Great deal for date night and Valentine's Day. We were lucky to also get a half-price bottle of wine as well! The starter to share was pita and spinach dip. Very large portion and spinach and cheese dip. The pitas were baked too long and too crunchy. The dip was really good, though. We ordered the chicken fried chicken, which comes with broccoli and mashed potato. The breaded chicken breast was covered in gravy. Very juicy chicken and large portion. My wife ordered the chicken parmesan with spaghetti. The pasta was cooked some whole tomato sauce. I would have liked a little more tomato sauce for the spaghetti. To finish off the meal, we had a caramel cheesecake. We were so full and could not finish the spinach dip and chicken parmesan. If you are looking for a great deal on Tuesdays, then check Kelseys and try their dinner for 2 deal. You can upgrade to steak or Atlantic salmon for $4 more. The server was friendly and checked on us regularly. The restaurant managers were also walking by to ask if we were enjoying our food. The only thing I could critique was that the server brought our bill without asking us, and she forgot to serve our dessert. She apologized after I reminded her about our dessert. Aside from that minor setback, it was a great experience. Keep up the great work.

It has been many years since I dined at this Kelsey's. Customer service was above and beyond here, our server was personable, and very attentive. Restaurant very clean. The Nachos were a win, definitely some of the best I've had in a while, love it was ultra crispy, the one thing I'd change would be the Lettuce, longer thin strips would be better than the actual leaves as it got soggy fast from the cheese, tomatoes etc. The Fajitas were also super tasty, glad I got the Steak, it was done just right and the Cajun seasoning is on point. Can't wait to come back again and try some more items on the menu. Keep up the amazing job here!
