We decided to visit a restaurant in Vaughan one evening, looking for something Ghanaian to eat. After browsing TikTok, we stumbled upon Nyamekye. The reviews were mixed—some good, some bad—but we decided to give it a try. Parking was extremely difficult and took us about five minutes to find a spot. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by an unpleasant smell. I’m not sure why many African restaurants tend to have this issue, but it was off-putting. The staff didn’t acknowledge us when we came in or offered us a table. We ended up seating ourselves. After a couple of minutes, someone brought us the menu, but she wasn’t friendly, which made the experience less welcoming. We decided to place a takeout order since the parking situation and atmosphere made us want to leave quickly. We ordered Angwamo with peppered goats and some malt. The Angwamo was decent. It came with sardine, egg, plantain, corned beef, and a single sausage cut into three pieces. However, the seasoning was too overpowering, with way too much Maggi. They also included pepper, but it was very watery and lacked any real flavor. I’d rate it 7/10. The peppered goat, on the other hand, was very disappointing. The meat was tough, the seasoning was completely off, and it just wasn’t enjoyable. For me, it was a 1/10, and my boyfriend gave it a 2/10. The malt, on the other hand, tasted very bitter. As a Ghanaian, the overall taste of the food felt very foreign. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t feel authentic to me. Someone who isn’t Ghanaian might enjoy it, but for someone who truly knows Ghanaian food, it just didn’t meet expectations. Overall, we were very disappointed with the experience. The food didn’t meet our expectations, and the service and atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, we won’t be going back. Maybe someday.

We took my father to Nyamekye for his birthday dinner. It was a perfect place for a traditional, authentic sit down Ghanaian dinner with a classy atmosphere. It was our first time, but the restaurant came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. The food was awesome and the service was even better. The very friendly staff made us feel like family. I had the palm nut soup last night. I'm still thinking about it this morning. Thanks for a wonderful meal! We'll see you again. Highly recommend.

I recently discovered a new neighborhood spot and visited with my girlfriend this week. While I’m not too familiar with Ghanaian cuisine, the experience felt somewhat familiar as a Jamaican. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and welcoming, with beautiful decor showcasing West African culture. We arrived around 1:30 PM, and while it was initially quiet with just one other table, the place quickly filled up with patrons dining in and ordering takeout. Our server was pleasant and very informative, patiently answering our questions and offering great suggestions on what to try. We promptly started with the beef suya, which was juicy, moist, and perfectly seasoned—not too spicy but just right. Based on the server's recommendation, we then tried the goat light soup. As the name suggests, it was light yet packed with flavor, accompanied by tender goat meat and banku. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised and thoroughly satisfied with the food and the service. We'll definitely be back when craving West African cuisine. Wishing this restaurant all the best as they continue to grow in this new location!
